Sony playmemories apps - details, tutorials and reviews
Most of the camera manufacturers now offer WiFi on their latest cameras which enables customers to connect their camera to their smartphone and control actions like shutter release, changing camera settings, transfer images wireless to smartphone etc. But Sony has apps that can be installed into the camera and sue from within camera like time-lapse app, multiple exposure, light trail etc. Many are paid apps and some are free of charge as well. A recent hack of the firmware revealed that revealed that Sony uses modified version of Google's android which probably the reason why the apps can be installed into the OS of the camera like Android on the smartphone. These apps can be installed via PC or directly from the camera (if WiFi enabled) for which you are required to create an account with official Sony.net.
Steps to install Play memories apps(PC)
First of all you need to register for an account at Play Memories app official or at Sony.net and log-in to your account.
- After installing and starting the 'download tool' on the PC, connect camera to PC and turn it on and select file transfer mode (MTP in settings) from settings and then click 'connect camera' on the 'download tool'. Camera will be connected after the tool verifying the connection and on left it will display model ID and on right side the play memories app list with install button. Paid apps can be installed after making payment obviously and free ones can be done straight away. Its not recommended to install all the available apps as it may use all memory and slow down the camera.
- Once installed turn off camera and disconnect the usb from PC and camera
- Turn the Camera back on and go to menu settings -> play memories app mneu-> find your app.
