Finally Canon and Nikon are going serious about their mirrorless system?
For the last few years (paricularly in last 2 years) mirrorless camera systems have been growing significantly though Canon/Nikon still holding the top spots in the camera market and among professionals. But, with Sony and Fuji-film and others like Panasonic/Olympus are edging closer and closer with their mirrorless systems that gap is almost very narrow and what both DSLR and mirrorless systems offer to professional photography market is very similar at least by end of 2017. Those superior features of DSLRs like fast and accurate AF system, longer battery, better at sports shooting (burst shooting) etc are now almost similar what can see in a Canon EOS 1Dx or Nikon D5 and Sony's A9 or A7R markiii (though still not neck and neck). But expert's prediction of 'mirrorless will edge past DSLRs in 2018' is most likely to happen.
For the last few years both Canon and Nikon have been so ignorant and dismissive of mirrorless systems claiming DSLRs is the way to go. But recent developments and growth of Sony has seemingly opening their eyes. Both companies have released mirrorless cameras before with Canon continued their APS-C EOS-M mirrorless camera so far where as Nikon had given up on mirrorless camera with poor sales of their 1 serioes ( Nikon 1 J and Nikon 1 V). But recent rumors, if to be true, both are forced to focus and invest in mirrorless system.
Recently Canon have asked in survey to pro photographers using their system, what they will like to see(features) in a mirrorless systems and their CEO Fujio Mitarai admitted in recent interview that they are lagging in innovation compared to others (Sony). At the same time Nikon's imaging R&D manager Mr. Tetsuro Goto has stated in a interview that fullframe is the way to go if Nikon to go again into mirrorless market. Also with Canon's recent invitations to CEOs and high professionals for their unveiling of next full-frame mirrorless camera and Nikon revealed mid-2107 about their plan, one can assume that Canon and Nikon are going serious about mirrorless camera market.
